Canal gates allow the passage of a fluid, usually water, with three-sided sealing and designed for installation in a canal.

There are four main parts of a canal gate: frame, gate, spindle and actuator. One of its main characteristics is that it prevents the passage of fluids up to a maximum height equal to that of the gate.

Adaptability

Coutex Sorigué canal gates are manufactured from a wide variety of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel (typically AISI 304L and 316L), and special alloys such as duplex or super duplex. Their design adapts to any size and water load.

Watertightness

They can incorporate sealing for fluid shut-off on one side (unidirectional) or both sides (bidirectional). They comply with the AWA C-561 / DIN 19569-4 Class 5 sealing standard.

Technical data

Dimensions

The following data can be used to calculating the dimensions of a canal gate

  • Canal width
  • Maximum water level from the base of the penstock
  • Canal height
  • Unidirectional (with or against flow) or bidirectional shut-off.
  • Type of drive (manual, electric, oil-hydraulic, or other).

Design

Depending on the dimensions and water load, the design of the canal gate is adapted to each project and can be fitted with sliding runners or wheels to reduce the opening and closing effort.

Family

The family of canal gates consists of slide gates (with runners) and fixed-wheel gates (with wheels).
