Tilting penstocks
Tilting or swing penstocks are used to control the flow of water in canals and rivers.
In the closed (vertical) position, the penstock blocks the flow of fluid. In the open (horizontal) position, it lies completely flat, allowing the full flow of water to pass through. Additionally, it can be held in intermediate positions to create a water drop over the top of the penstock.
Drive
Drives installed at each end of the penstock facilitate opening and closing through a set of hinged joints at the base of the gate and the civil works.
Materials
Coutex Sorigué’s tilting or swing penstocks can be designed for any size and water load, using a wide variety of materials such as carbon steel and stainless steel (typically AISI 304L and 316L), etc.

Conditions
In order to calculate the dimensions of a tilting penstock, Coutex Sorigué will need to know, above all:
- Width of the canal or recess.
- Maximum water level from the base of the penstock.
- The type of drive: electric, oil-hydraulic, or other.
