Automatic cable grates clean from the front using a comb bucket that moves along a fixed guide on the frame.

These longitudinal grates, being cable-operated, are suitable for large bodies of water or deep wells, with no limitations on discharge height or canal width. The main components of the grate are the drive unit, frame, grate and cleaning system.

Materials

They can be manufactured from a single material, such as carbon steel, stainless steel (AISI-304L, AISI-316L), duplex, or super duplex. Alternatively, they can be made from a combination of materials , for example, a carbon steel frame with the other components in stainless steel.

Dimensions

The following data are required for calculating the dimensions of an automatic cable grate:

  • Width and height of the canal
  • Maximum water level from the base of the canal.
  • Pitch.
  • Waste type.
  • Discharge height measured above the manoeuvring floor.Discharge height measured above the manoeuvring floor.
  • Lifting load.

Technical data

Drive unit

It consists of a main steel transmission shaft mounted on bearings. This shaft includes a hollow axle geared motor and drums for winding the transmission cables. The cables are guided by pulleys that support the bucket-comb assembly.

Frame

A welded structure made from steel or stainless steel profiles, equipped with anchors for securing to civil works. The frame is designed and calculated to support both lifting loads and 100% of the hydraulic thrust.

Grate

The set of bars is arranged with spacing according to requirements. The grate is designed and calculated to withstand 100% of the hydraulic thrust. The angle of inclination is typically 85 degrees relative to the slab, although it can be designed for other angles. The bars generally have a rectangular geometry.

Cleaning system

The grate features an oscillating bucket with combs that are inserted between the bars for cleaning. A main geared motor drives the bucket for raising and lowering, while an additional motor handles the opening and closing. On the upper frame, the grate includes an oscillating scraper with a plastic end to clean the comb bucket during the final phase of the ascent manoeuvre.
